About
Who makes Fabledrift, and why it reads like a book
Fabledrift is an interactive fiction app for Android in which every scene is written live by an AI narrator that remembers what you did. It is built by one person, Çağtay Özbek, and it exists because the category kept getting two things wrong.
The two things
The first is memory. In every AI story product we tried before starting this one, the narrator forgot: a sister lost her name, a promise made in chapter one evaporated by chapter three, and some products sold the fix back to you as a subscription tier. We think a story that forgets you is not a cheaper product; it is a broken one. So the story's facts, characters, places and promises are tracked in a structured record outside the language model and handed to the narrator on every turn, for every reader, at no charge. You can read that record in the story journal, add your own notes, and when a note contradicts the record, the note wins.
The second is the interface. Most AI fiction descends from chat: bubbles, a text box, a model that answers like an assistant. The other branch descends from role-playing games: stats, dice, inventory grids. Neither is how a reader reads. Fabledrift is laid out as a page. The narrator writes a scene; you write what your character does or says, in your own words; the next scene arrives paragraph by paragraph. No counters, no bars, no confetti.
Decisions we made on purpose
- Memory is never a paid feature. Every reader gets the whole record.
- Cost is shown once, before a story starts, and never again while reading.
- Retelling a scene and stepping back are free, always. Money comes from new stories and richer narrators, not from basic reading.
- Content level is declared on the cover, like a book's rating, rather than enforced by interrupting a sentence.
- A story is never left half-finished. When credits run out you can continue with the free narrator or ask for a free closing scene.
- Worlds are content, not code. New ones arrive without an app update. See the worlds and narrators.
Who is behind it
Çağtay Özbek designs and builds Fabledrift: the story engine, the Android app, and this site. The narrator is powered by Claude models from Anthropic; the engine that keeps the story's memory, the rules the narrator must keep, and the reading interface are Fabledrift's own. The app is in closed testing on Android; the public listing follows when testing finishes.
How the blog is written
Posts on the Fabledrift blog are researched and drafted with AI assistance, checked against the product's documented behavior before publication, and never state prices or statistics we cannot source. When a post is materially revised, its "Updated" date changes. If you find an error, write to support@fabledrift.com and we will correct it.
